New York City’s The Chainsmokers take their turn at future bass with vocal-driven track Roses.
On their latest, the duo toes the line between modern pop and the style of bass music popularized by Flume and company. Zipping synths fly across the top end of a production that commingles with vocalist Rozes’ plaintive lead to create a bright energy. The bottom end packs a punch as snatches of trap-friendly vocal samples add enough energy to allow the production to not sound more comfortable as a prog house banger.
