The days of having to venture outside from your safe spot behind Facebook’s walls to purchase concert tickets are over. In a new move from the social media behemoth, Facebook will now offer concertgoers the opportunity to purchase tickets directly from its event pages.
Facebook is introducing a “Buy Tickets” button so users can purchase tickets to popular events. Currently the tickets will be available only for pickup at Will Call–no e-tickets are offered at the present time. However, the good news is that Facebook is not taking a percentage of the ticket price, and there are no extra fees. Although the purchase will be made on Facebook, all backend activities will be handled by third parties. Once a ticket is purchased, Facebook will send a confirmation email.
In an email to Buzzfeed, a Facebook spokesperson revealed that the company will be “partnering with a small group of independent venues, artists and event promoters in the San Francisco Bay Area for the pilot. Millions of people… currently use Facebook’s events pages to find out what’s happening in their communities.” This follows previous statements made by Facebook product manager Aditya Koolwal in September, when he said “Reducing the friction for buying a ticket is something that we think would be… a very interesting thing that we’re waiting for the right time for.” It looks like that time is now.
