A name like Drumsound & Bassline Smith conjures up all sorts of expectations and imaginations. It was conjured up over ten years ago by two UK fellows, and their unity resulted in glory for the genre of drum’n’bass. Their label, Technique Recordings, is nearly as old as their project. To top it off, they’ve been quite active recently, with anthems like Freak still rocking the scene since its release earlier this year.
Now they’ve kicked things off with their most recent anthem Close, a bass-laden masterpiece. Taking cues from their earlier successes, they’ve incorporated vocals straight into the track’s heaviness for energy and dancefloor destruction to the maximum degree. Check out the Mensah remix for a legit vocal dubstep interpretation of the original. Not quite as frantic as today’s typical American dubstep banger, but still whomping with the rage. Finally, I put up the DS & BLS remix of Louder by DJ Fresh for more drum’n’bass anthem goodness. These guys are out to prove that in an industry where the hot new thing is quickly recycled, being a veteran isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
