Now an established force in the pop-rock scene, New York based Scissor Sisters is finally is not only catching the attention of EDM producers worldwide, but more importantly the right ones. Following the recent success of their third album, the remix EP of Invisible Light brings some of the highest quality tunes I’ve seen all summer.
First, German superstar Boys Noize brings us what I see as not only a remix of a modern dance hit, but a flattering homage to a none other than Michael Jackson’s Thriller. Moreso than most tunes, the intro of this track serves as a literal storytelling device, one with a shockingly creepy undertone throughout. Full of both emotion and atmosphere, the drop three minutes in shows the song’s true colors- a strong attempt to revive the 80s dance hit. I hope it goes without saying that it still remains a very “Boys Noizified” overtone, but the influence of synth pop is very reminiscent of that classic 80s sound. The electro synths that Boys Noize throws into the song really make me feel as though tons of little mechanical spiders are crawling all over my skin. The Boys Noize remix of Invisible Light is very vivid track and one that I will remember for a multitude of reasons.
Another song from the same release that really wowed me was the Siriusmo remix. This guy has been putting out some seriously top notch releases all year. Check out his remix of Breakbot’s Baby I’m Yours here. His version of Invisible Light has a light indie dance feel but drops into what can only be described as a very grinding synth that makes its presence known without dominating the song. Trust me, you don’t want to miss either of these tracks.
