Strict Border might have taken note that clear jazz influences in EDM are often rare in occurrence. Seeking to rectify this situation, the duo have imparted Indecent Proposal to us off their new EP, Superstitions. Take a listen to 1:52 to hear a distinctively classic jazzy ride cymbal rhythm. Then pay attention as 3:00 marks another beautifully soulful vocal break for an appropriate chillout before bringing the beat back. Finally, toward the end of the song we hear a bit more piano influence as the track bounces onwards, maintaining that party-till-tomorrow-afternoon vibe to it. Amazing stuff from these guys.
The duo originally hails from Iran and consists of Amirali Shahrestani and Iman Habibi, and their history is truly inspiring. Shortly after they first joined forces in Tehran in early 2009, they had to part ways as Iman was living in Tehran at the time, and Amir in Toronto. However, the duo saw it as a worthy challenge, plowing ahead and dealing with an eight hour difference in time zones, and .wav files sometimes taking more than an hour to upload in Iran. Their tremendous enthusiasm has certainly paid off as the duo’s success has begun to snowball, with the likes of Dubfire, Davide Squillace and Laurent Garnier supporting them, among others. I’m looking forward to more of their unique approaches to the traditional tech and deep house worlds.
