Long-established British music festival Bestival is set to enter the North American market this summer with a sister festival in Toronto.
The Toronto edition of the festival is set to be held June 12 – 13 on Hanlan’s Point Beach in the Toronto Islands, located on Lake Ontario a few minutes away from downtown Toronto. Bestival, now in its 12th year, is similar to Coachella in terms of music philosophy, offering up an eclectic mix of dance music, indie/rock, and hip hop. Previous headliners include Stevie Wonder, Kraftwerk, and Florence & The Machine.
Although the Toronto lineup hasn’t yet been announced, this year’s Bestival UK boasts the likes of Underworld, The Chemical Brothers, Jurassic 5, Gorgon City and ’80s legends Duran Duran.
BBC Radio 1 DJ and festival curator Robert Gorham, aka Rob Da Bank, has said he hopes to bring some of Bestival’s unique quirks to the North American market.
“No disrespect to the festivals in North America, but a lot of them are very much stages, bars, food tents. This festival will look very different. It will have theatricality, ambition.”
Ticket information and lineup announcements are due in the coming weeks.
