Few artists have dominated 2014 quite like BANKS. The Los Angeles-based singer turned more than a few heads with the release of her London EP last year, but with several impressive singles, a massively popular tour, and now the release of her debut album Goddess, Jillian Banks has arrived in full force.
Goddess is a dynamic and beautifully dark compilation of tracks, which all highlight BANKS’ majestic voice and brooding, hypnotic sound. The album starts off with the SOHN-produced track Alibi, a seductive, alluring effort that plays up BANKS’ vocal range. Fuck Em Only We Know combines haunting and ethereal bass with a slightly R&B-infused beat, making for a fresh and undeniably smooth track. Pumping bass and mythical, leering synths define And I Drove You Crazy, another standout tune.
Though she’s known for her dark, intense beats, BANKS truly displays her talent on tracks in which she’s accompanied by nothing more than a single instrument, such as her emotive ballad Someone New featuring light guitar chords and the melancholy Under The Table.
In addition to new material, Goddess features previously released singles from BANKS’ London EP and newer tracks including Drowning, Beggin For Thread, and title track Goddess. Purchase the album on iTunes here.
