Someone needs to bust into the studio and give Chris Lake an award. Not only did he have an awesome set at Electric Zoo, but his monthly podcast is among the best out there. This unstoppable force from the UK has many engaging collaborations with other DJs, including Michael Woods, Marco Lys, and Deadmau5. I was particularly curious when I discovered his remix of the 1997 progressive house record Beachball by Nalin & Kane. Although I never doubted Chris, I hold a very high standard for artists that choose to remix classics.
I must say, Beachball is one hell of a club-razing banger. The catchy beat instantly reminded me of another remix of a classic by Mark Knight. The breakdown at four minutes is clean and leads to an explosive climax at 4:55 where the vocalist, Shondell Mims, sings I’m Ready To Fly. Beachball certainly underlines the fact that no matter the style, Chris Lake does it right.
