Former Swedish House Mafia partners Axwell and Sebastian Ingrosso confirmed a forthcoming debut album today from their project Axwell /\ Ingrosso after signing a contract with Universal Music’s Def Jam Recordings (Virgin EMI in the UK) for its 2015 release.
Geared up with their SHM mega-manager Amy Thomson, the duo is ready to embark on a fresh era beginning with their new home. The signing also marks a new chapter for the Def Jam imprint as Axwell /\ Ingrosso joins the label’s growing electronic roster aside previous signee Alesso. Def Jam CEO Steve Bartels commented in a press release:
“[Axwell /\ Ingrosso] music is forward, innovative, invigorating and boundless… Def Jam has the artistry and energy of DJ culture within its pedigree, right there in our logo. This is a significant moment for all of us as at Def Jam.”
The good Axwell /\ Ingrosso news doesn’t stop there. Thomson’s ATM Artists is about to receive major backing, thanks to billionaire investor Ron Burkle, Madison Square Garden owner James Dolan, and MSG Entertainment’s CEO Irving Azoff. Billboard reports that the $175 million deal, amounting to a 50 percent stake in the company, will focus on the live experience. Based on these new details, don’t be surprised if Axwell /\ Ingrosso secures another show at Madison Square Garden for the first time since their sold-out SHM “One Last Tour” show in 2013.
We already got a taste of what the pair will bring to the table thanks to the return of their Departures show to Ibiza superclub Ushuaia this past summer season. While we don’t have any official word on tour dates quite yet, what we can expect is new Axwell /\ Ingrosso music and content later this year, and a debut album in early 2015.
