This one sentence will probably send the vast majority of dance music fans into collective apoplexy (in a good or bad way), but according to Axwell, the Swedish House Mafia might be getting back together.
Following the world premiere of his new single Waiting For So Long (Gloria) on Zane Lowe’s BBC Radio 1 show, the Axtone boss teased a return for the world-famous trio, who break up three years ago.
“We think about it every now and then, you know what we left, what we did, what we’ve accomplished and everything; and how it would be to do something together again. But I think, the only thing is that time will tell pretty much. We have been blessed to be riding this wave, and just ahead of the wave for some time now, so you know we are able to do exactly what we want, which is a blessing. You know this song that we just played here, it was just like no thoughts, no need, no nothing, just music. Who knows what happens in the future, we might get a sudden urge to Swedish House Mafia it up again… who knows!”
Slightly cryptic, to be sure, but in the music industry, unless you’re The Beatles, everyone gets back together… eventually.
While you wait for their inevitable reunion, stream Axwell’s new single above. It’s a wedding dedication to his wife Gloria, and the producer’s first solo single since 2013. With the single also comes news that Axwell is going to release Axtone Ten, a compilation celebrating the 10th anniversary of his label, on Dec. 11.
