We came, we saw, we were rocked by Avicii. The young Swede is rapidly rising in the scene, delivering powerful house and trance originals and remixes that rival the best in the business. It would only be fitting that one of his first shows of 2011 would be held at the posh and powerful Lavo New York–an intimate club with a booming sound system that could rival any sub or strobe that comes in its path. Intricate chandeliers, a wall-of-light podium, and hanging trapeze artists set the stage for Avicii’s set–and boy, he met the challenge.
At only 21, Avicii’s skills are astonishing. This guy was was born to spin. Massive drops, crowd-pleasing bangers, and an ability to keep the crowd going long into the night is just the beginning of the resume that I would call Avicii’s. Highlights of the night included his remix of Robyn’s Hang With Me, the Otto Knows remix of Imogen Heap’s Hide and Seek, and of course, Bromance.
With amazing acts like Tiesto, Calvin Harris, and now Avicii, Lavo has become the front-runner of the upscale New York electronic music scene. Next week Chuckie and the EC Twins will rock the house; take a spot in line and you may be lucky enough to get in on the fun.
