Avicii has announced details of his new album, due out at some point later this year, and it includes a wealth of big-name collaborations with the likes of Jon Bon Jovi, Wyclef Jean, Chris Martin (Coldplay), Billie Joe Armstrong (Green Day) and Serj Tankian (System Of A Down).
Avicii, real name Tim Bergling, has carved a niche for himself by combining EDM with other popular styles of music. Many brows were furrowed when last year’s True was revealed to contain influences from country music, yet the concept saw the album gain millions of worldwide sales, while singles Wake Me Up and Hey Brother topped charts across the planet.
The new album looks set to continue the trend, with Avicii telling Rolling Stone that he has been working on around 70 songs, and that, like True, it is very much “song-oriented”. Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, who is “like a brother” according to Tim, has also been helping out with the songwriting process: “He needs every part to be perfect. I’m not like that, which is why I’ve got 70 songs.”
Stay tuned for more news on the as-yet-untitled Avicii album.
