DEET DEET DEET, DOOT!
Now this is the kind of track that will get you dancing and probably laid as well. We No Speak Americano by Yolanda Be Cool and DCUP is a catchy club hit that is shaking dance floors all over Europe. Growing up in Los Angeles, I already have a strong affection for Latin music. When I heard this impressive tune I was delighted at the combination of genres executed so smoothly. I enjoy this track so much that I have literally had it on repeat for over half an hour.
So who are Yolanda Be Cool and where do they come from? They’re an Australian duo made up of Sylvester Martinez and Johnson Peterson. Their buddy DCUP’s real name is Duncan MacLennan and together they sampled a 1956 classic named Tu vuò fà l’americano by Renato Carosone and written by Carosone and Nicola “Nisa” Salerno. Not only has We No Speak Americano topped the Irish, UK, Danish, Dutch, AND Swedish charts, but it has also reached the top five in Spain, Belgium, and Norway. This track is taking the globe by storm.
You might be wondering where the name Yolanda Be Cool comes from. If you recall the film Pulp Fiction, there is a scene where Samuel Jackson tells Yolanda, played by Jules Winnfeld, to be cool. Additionally, the duo and their fellow Australian DCUP started an indie label called Sweat It Out! in 2008. Their next nine shows are taking place this month in Europe.
