It’s been a minute since we last heard from our boy Audien, but it looks like it was for a good reason–the Grammy-nominated big room star has been in the studio with country band Lady Antebellum hard at work on the newest summer dance anthem, Something Better (stream in the video below).
“With Something Better, I wanted to push boundaries,” Audien told Entertainment Weekly. “The song lends itself perfectly to call-and-response vocals and anthemic harmonies. Lady Antebellum aren’t just some of the best voices in country music, but in overall music. It was a shot in the dark, but fortunately they felt as passionately about the song’s uplifting theme as I did. The result is simply my favorite thing I’ve ever done.”
This isn’t Lady Antebellum’s first brush with dance music–they recently performed at the CMT Awards with Zedd–but it was definitely a step in a different direction for the group.
“Working with someone like Audien puts us a little outside of our comfort zone,” group member and vocalist Charles Kelley said during the same interview, “but as a band, we’ve always been up for trying different things. The first time we heard the song, we knew we wanted to be part of it. We were immediately drawn to its great melody and powerful lyric.”
The EDM-country bandwagon seems to be rolling along without a hitch, and with anthemic, feel-good hits like this, we don’t see it snapping an axel anytime soon.
