App Awareness: TuneIn Releases 4.0 Version

TuneIn is helping bring traditional radio from your car to all your devices. With their new 4.0 version, the overall user experience has seen some nice upgrades.

If you’re new to the app, TuneIn is a radio streaming app and website that features over 70,000 live radio stations (including your favorite local ones), in addition to sports, news, podcasts, concerts, and interviews. You don’t need an account to enjoy the service–just open up the app and start browsing.

If you enable location, you’ll be able to browse radio stations in your area. Feeling adventurous? Browse local radio in any city in the world or listen to live playlists centered around a theme or genre. If you create an account, you can customize your own live streams, too. Data-conscious users: checking how much data you’ve used is easy–just tap the settings button in the main menu.

As for 4.0 updates, the “Now Playing” screen is loaded up with recommendations, which you can easily access by swiping up. They’ve also improved the signup process by better integrating Facebook login, so you can access your favorite radio stations from any device.

Here’s why TuneIn is better than your car radio: Just like a DVR, you can skip backwards to go to the beginning of the song and skip forward to catch up. Not to mention, as you scroll through your list of listening options, you can see what’s currently playing on that station. If you hear something you like, tap the heart icon to save the station, show and artist–never lose another favorite again.

If you’re still convinced that radio belongs in the car, try their car mode. It’s a simpler interface–almost half your screen is devoted to play and pause for easy control while driving. (But let a passenger do this, since you shouldn’t use your cell phone while driving!)

TuneIn is available for the iPhone, iPad, Android, Android tablet, Windows Phone, Kindle, Blackberry, Palm, Samsung Smart TV, Panasonic Viera TV, Roku, Sonos, Logitech, and in Chevrolet, Ford, and Tesla cars. So what are you waiting for? Tune into TuneIn today! Check it out for free in the app store.
