Apparently reworks of more emo rock tracks are just what the doctor ordered in today’s house scene, especially in the world of Dirty South and the members of the Swedish House Mafia (we swear we don’t have a crush on SHM on this site… really). First Axwell hit us with some Teenage Crime, then he and Dirty South teamed up to reinvent The Temper Trap. This time, Sebastian Ingrosso has teamed up with Mr. South to remix another “it” alternative act today: Miike Snow, a newer group that is quickly gaining in popularity (maybe because they like to use pictures of bunnies with antlers in their promos?)
This take on Snow’s track Silvia has more of a tech house feel than the previously discussed house hits. The difference is welcomed though, and pulled off very well with the use of some pitch-bendy synths and syncopated rhythms in the drop. My favorite moment? 1:32. When that “bleep” just sucks out all the sound and throws it back in again. A highly “effected” vocal line from Snow gives the track a bit more of a spacious feel at times, consuming the corners of the room the sound hasn’t enveloped yet.
Given that the original of this track already has that 4/4 thump, it’s not much of a surprise that a dance hit came forth. I would love to see a record like this make it onto a late-night top 40 lineup, so everyone could bump this track as much as I have been.
