Canadian upstart Andy’s iLL has been having some ill success treading the line between shimmering trance and heavy electro. I’m all for genre-blending as pretty much all of us at LT3 are–we think it’s the future of electronic music. Why rock out to one kind of music, when you can get crazy to two or three at once, the resulting product greater than the sum of the parts?
The refix of Caribou’s Sun turns a moody beachside cruiser tune into late-night destroyer with a very steep drop. Mr. iLL uses the breezy qualities of the original to infuse his go-to electro stomper sound with a beautifully lyrical atmosphere, despite having no vocals. He’s also worked with another one of my recent favorites, Overwerk, for an out-of-this-world original called Stop, Drop, & Roll. Using some samples you’ll recognize from Overwerk’s face-melting Space Junk remix, the two made a love-baby of a track tainted with electro-vibes from both sides.
