I am a huge fan of mashups. What I love most is finding what elements from each song were taken to blend two into one. Asking why these two tracks fit so well together. Questioning what process the DJ went through to build this new masterpiece… So I’ve decided to share my favorite mashups with you, along with the tracks they were created from. Hopefully through this we’ll learn more about mashups; these pieces that are (1) rarely released, (2) often musically interesting, and (3) so much fun to listen to when you hear two of your favorite songs at once. So let’s get to it.
We’ll start with Arno Cost’s track Cyan. I first heard this on the Gareth Emery podcast episode 102. It came in after Jaytech and Jeremy Olander. I had been working along with this in the background; until this song came along; danceable bassline, continuously falling melody, powerful builds and dynamics. I think I replayed it 4-5 times before moving on in the episode.
Next comes SHM feat Deborah Cox with Leave The World Behind You. Laidback Luke also took part in this one. I can’t even guess how many times this one has been remixed. Another catchy bassline and everything you would want in progressive house vocals.
Together we get a bootleg from Simon Cox – Leave Cyan Behind You. Cyan is closer to trance, so I enjoy that he started and ended with it. There’s a couple departures out of Cyan in the middle, and some mixing elsewhere (mainly vocals). Check it out for yourself.
