Toronto duo Zeds Dead have come light years since the legendary Eyes on Fire remix that really put their name on the map. They’ve never been one to follow popular sounds, focusing on musicianship and swag rather than overwhelming bass. Just like that, their newest EP Adrenaline is all about doing it their way, and by god they’ve gone and done it.
In the Beginning is heavy dubstep, Zeds Dead style. No clinking metal or rainbow melodies found here, just fat wobble and a minimal hip-hop beat. A far cry from the complextro-inspired dubstep of today’s electrostep stalwarts, the duo’s tracks are always about that street style. Hit Me rides on an underused step beat to drop into some UK bass stylings, complete with tribal drums and rave buzz. Finally, Oh No brings back some familiar Zeds Dead sounds in a more melancholic dub piece.
