UK producer Rob Stevenson, better known as Activa, is almost the perfect representation of the underground trance scene. With his dedication to producing quality uplifting tracks for a fervent worldwide fanbase, it’s clear to see why Stevenson is releasing tracks on Paul Oakenfold’s legendary Perfecto Fluoro label.
Antimatter tips the scales at the harder end of the genre. There’s a slight hint of psy-trance about it, but it doesn’t extend much further than the tight blip at the tip of the kick drum and the nicely understated acid lines. There are plenty of plucks and pads running throughout to give it plenty of atmosphere, but it’s also subtly progressive, with breaks and drops that pass by without screaming for attention, giving the track an impressively smooth flow.
Antimatter is out now on Beatport, and is also featured on Full On Fluoro Vol 3, which boasts Activa on mix duties and further sets him out as one of the core reasons the underground trance scene is still going strong.
