Neither of the two members of Chase & Status have “Chase” or “Status” anywhere in their real names; it was their personal tags as London graffiti artists before they decided to trade in the spray paint for beat machines. Now regulars on Andy C’s powerhouse label Ram Records as well as their own MTA Records, they churn out a mind-boggling variety of dance music that spans the genres between drum n’ bass, dubstep, hip hop and breaks.
They just released No Problem, a single that’s been in the spotlight of the drum’n’bass world for the past few months. The track was featured in Pendulum’s Essential Mix and Andy C’s Nightlife 5, easily the most popular mixes of the year for the genre. It opens with vocals that evoke the jams of Major Lazer, but soon drops into utter madness. While this song’s been burning dancefloors for over six months now, it only just got released as a part of their No More Idols EP. The rest of the album honestly doesn’t quite live up to the single, but it’s a well-produced bundle of vocal, bass-heavy tracks. In particular, Hypest Hype and Flashing Lights are like nothing you’ve heard before.
Chase & Status have made significant headway on the festival circuit this year, making stateside appearances at Electric Daisy Carnival and the more recent Nocturnal Festival. Keep your eyes on these two, as they seem to be quickly becoming one of the biggest duos in EDM.
