Our friends The Plump DJs have recently started a new label called Grand Hotel, which according to the press release, is “a new brand to develop a forward-thinking platform for new electronic dance music, [Plump DJs] productions and those of other inspiring artists worldwide.” Sounds like a good thing to be on board with, as well as a good thing for The Plumps to be heading, considering their brand of EDM is very much along those lines.
One of the first signings to Grand Hotel is a track called Get A Grip by a new outfit called Dirty Super Car. Not a lot of info out there right now about DSC, but this track has been making quite a few waves lately, so I assume that is about to change. I have included the filthy, sample-laden original mix so you can be wowed by DSC’s ingenuity, but the Maximilian Remix of this track is the one that has been getting the most recognition, probably because of its energetic, dubstep-meets-electro type sounds. Both mixes start out in a very ambient fashion, with a building, Chaka Khan-esque vocal sample holding up the beginning (maybe it is Chaka Khan; anyone know?) Then comes the drop, which out of nowhere puts you into a space where the wob meets the thump in a way that really works, with the wob being more prominent in the Maximilian Remix. Because dubstep and house operate in very different BPM regions (dubstep is around 140-150 while house is around 125-132), it is impressive to hear this marriage because it is not the easiest thing to pull off. I commend The Plumps on this signing, and am excited to hear what else they have in store for us.
