When it comes to charitable giving through music sales, 3LAU has the market cornered.
The 21-year-old producer is taking a break from his finance studies at Washington University this semester for a 22-stop nationwide 3LAU Your Mind Tour during which he’ll donate $1 from every ticket sale to Pencils of Promise, a non-profit dedicated to providing children around the world with access to quality education. “Education is a right that all human beings should have,” Blau said in a press release. “Yet there are 75 million children just like us without access to it. I’m ready to help that change. Let’s harness the power of the dance music movement to do something real: to give back.”
3LAU’s ultimate goal from his tour is to raise $25,000 for Pencils of Promise in order to fund the construction of a school in a developing country. The producer has already proven himself a successful philanthropist–his fundraising efforts began back in April when he pledged to donate all proceeds from his Beatport remix Back To New toward the cause.
He committed to matching all purchases made on Beatport with $2.50 of his own money until his goal of $25,000 was met, and within 48 hours of the song’s release, 3LAU had achieved 20% of his goal. As of June 21, 3LAU had raised the entire $25,000 needed to build the first school, the Justo Rufino Primary School in Guatemala, which is currently under construction.
Known best for his sugary-pop mashups, Justin Blau’s progressive house tracks have earned him the #3 ranking on Beatport’s overall chart and landed him a spot on the main stage at New York City’s Electric Zoo Festival back in September. You can catch the rising star on tour this month, making stops at venues including Webster Hall in New York on 11/23 and Fonda Theatre in L.A. on 12/14. View all his tour dates here.
