While the DJ Mag Top 100 may grab most of the headlines when it comes to bestowing awards on DJs, there’s a few other industry bodies that recognize and reward our hard-working megastars. The 2015 DJ Awards was held on Sept. 29 in Pacha Ibiza, and made for a refreshing alternative to the poll that often dominates the industry.
There were some similarities with the Top 100, with Hardwell scooping the awards for Best International DJ and Best Progressive House/Electro DJ. However, on the more underground side of the spectrum–an area that the awards put plenty of focus on–Solomun grabbed the award for Best Deep House DJ, Ibiza legend Carl Cox took home the Best Techno DJ prize, and Best Tech House DJ was jointly awarded to Hot Since 82 and Luciano.
It was very much an Ibiza affair, with most of the winners having a strong presence on the island over the season, not to mention the variety of special awards that recognized some of the other areas of the industry. The IMS took Best Ibiza Event, Acid Sundays won Best Ibiza Club Night, and Faithless’ stand-out appearance at BBC Radio 1’s Ibiza Rocks event took Best Live Performance. It wasn’t all White Isle centred though, with South Africa taking the award for Dance Nation Of The Year, and the legend that is Arthur Baker receiving an Electronic Music Pioneer award.
